DESCRIPTION
In the realm of fantasy fiction, before there was Neil Gaiman, before Ursula K. LeGuin, before H.P. Lovecraft, and before J.R.R. Tolkien there was Edward John Moreton Drax Plunkett, the 18th Baron Dunsany. Along with William Morris, Lord Dunsany helped to establish the foundation of imaginative fantasy fiction in the early 20th century.

Originally published in 1905 as the Irish writer's first collection, "The Gods of Pegana" begins Dunsany's revelation of the richly envisioned world of Pegana through mythic stories and tales of the gods. Dunsany's "exquisite sense of the fantastic" and "rich language" create a compelling read for both children and adults, and also provide a tremendous influence for readers and writers of fantasy fiction.

Dunsany continued the development of the world of Pegana in later collections and stories, including "Time and the Gods", "The Sword of Welleran", "A Dreamer's Tales", and "The Book of Wonder".
