Franklin Delano Roosevelt (1882-1945) was president of the United States from 1933 till his death during his fourth term. FDR's optimism manifested itself in the energetic efforts of his administration to pull the nation out of the Great Depression. This speech, given on December 8, 1941, the day after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, marked the United States entry into the Second World War.
