DESCRIPTION
American revolutionary thinker Thomas Paine anonymously published the pamphlet "Common Sense" on January 10, 1776. The work openly confronted the British monarchy and questioned the authority of the British government. The wildly popular pamphlet, written in everyday language, unambiguously called for American independence from Great Britain. Six months later the Declaration of Independence was issued.
