DESCRIPTION
Francis Meynell was proprietor of England's Pelican Press and Nonesuch Press and aspired to produce "the finest possible printing for commerce." This essay was written as an introduction to the specimen book "Typography," published by Pelican Press in 1923. Writing about this essay in 1971, Meynell commented that this is "a typical effusion of a young man now grown a stranger to me."
