Mathematician and physicist Isaac Newton was a key figure in the development of science and his rules for scientific reasoning are now part of the scientific method. Newton rose from poverty and humble country surroundings to having Queen Anne confer the honor of knighthood upon him at Cambridge University. Alexander Pope’s couplet eulogy sums up Newton’s life:

God said let Newton be and all was light”
