Don Chin, Bill Maus, and the rest of the gang at Parody Press! strike again with this shameless spoof of the X-Men. In one issue, they neatly manage to lampoon the key X-Men comics: X-Men (1st Series) #1 (by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby), the first appearance of the X-Men; and X-Men (2nd Series) #1, the top selling comic of all time.
It would spoil the jokes to say too much about them here, but suffice to say that The Unfunny X-Cons is loaded with X-Men in-jokes. The stories swipe panels shamelessly from the originals, adding Don Chin's bizarre sense of humor to the old stories. It also makes great sport of the characters themselves, transforming, for instance the Beast into rapper Beastie Boy; tough guy Cable into the video adventurer Cable TV; and Jean Grey into a hilarious version of Barbara Eden from "I Dream of Jeannie." -- AtomicAvenue.com review
Bonus features in this issue are color cover spoofs of X-Men titles including the fearsome fan favorite Tangerine (he dispenses fruit juice out of his fists via indestrucible straws) , and a humorous short story starring "The Pitts!"
