DESCRIPTION
Dr. Moncure D. Conway, editor, author, clergyman and sometime minister of the South Place Ethical Society in London, England, delivered lectures in New York City's Masonic Temple during the lecture season of 1875.

This Conway lecture examines the historic roots of demons, devils, dragons and the like -- and how they have fared in the face of the advance of science. He notes that, while these symbols are not literally feared nowadays, the evils they symbolized still roam.
