DESCRIPTION
Jane Austen's first published novel, Sense and Sensibility, details the lives of Mrs. Dashwood and her three daughters, Elinor, Marianne, and Margaret. Left impoverished after the death of their father, the Dashwood sisters and their mother are forced to move to a country cottage. The story specifically follows Elinor and Marianne through their romantic pursuits and relationships; and it is through these two sisters that Austen is able to draw a contrast between rational practicality and romantic idealism.
