Janis Lyn Joplin was a great American singer and songwriter, from Port Arthur, Texas. She rose to prominence in the late 1960s as the lead singer of Big Brother and the Holding Company, and eventually a solo career. She is widely considered one of the greatest artists of the 1960s and one of the greatest female rockers of all time. In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine ranked Joplin #46 on their list of the 50 Greatest Artists of All Time. Her career continued until her death in Los Angeles, California of a drug overdose at the age of 27.
