DESCRIPTION
Reverend John Heckewelder was the most prominent of the Moravian missionaries to the Delaware Indians. His field was chiefly in Ohio, where he performed many services for the government in its relation with the Indians. He made a serious study of Indian life and languages, and published the results of his research in the "Transactions" of the American Philosophical Society, of which he was a member.
This 1817 essay recounts the stories told to him describing the behavior of the European settlers toward Native American Indians.
